Old Saybrook Historical Spciety

The General’s Garden Battalion is looking for a few good men and women! Volunteers are needed to fight the war on weeds in the Old Saybrook Historical Society Garden at the General William Hart House Garden, 350 Main Street, Old Saybrook on Tuesday or Saturday mornings between 10 a.m. and 12 noon  Interested recruits should contact Marianne Pfeiffer by email am.pfeiffer@comcast.net or meet at the battlefield!

Estuary Council of Seniors

Meals on Wheels Drivers

Volunteer drivers are always needed to deliver meals to homebound seniors.  A variety of routes leave from Old Saybrook, Clinton, or Old Lyme.  Hot and nutritious meals are delivered to seniors living along the shoreline.  Meals are picked up at the assigned site around 10 am and most routes are completed by Noon.

Volunteers must have valid driver’s license and own vehicle for delivery.  Training is provided by Estuary Cafe Managers.  Each driver is assigned a route and specific day for delivery and provided with a route sheet that has directions and instructions.  Click here for more information

Shoreline Thrift Shop

Many thrift store volunteers have worked at the Senior Center longer than most employees.  Different opportunities available.  Sort items as they come in, organize displays, or check out customers.  You decide what you enjoy best.  Work with other active and fun volunteers!

The Thrift Shop is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Volunteers work a set schedule of hours (normally 2-4 hours) and days a week as best suits their availability.

No previous experience is required. New volunteers will be trained by either the Lead Clerk or other volunteers.  Click here for more information

Welcome Desk Receptionist

Greet people as they enter the center and answer questions.  Sign people up for classes and activities. Answer phones and transfer calls to appropriate staff.  Most volunteers work a dedicated shift or day, while others substitute as needed.

Our volunteers have formed friendships with each other and socialize outside the center together.  Meet new people and get involved in our classes and activities.  A very friendly and relaxed environment where there is always an opportunity to help someone, sometimes by just giving them a smile.

Training will be provided to new volunteers by staff and fellow volunteers.  Receptionists work in pairs and someone is always available to answer questions.  Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p m  Monday through Friday. Volunteers work 2 or 3 hours shifts or as their schedule allows.  Click here for more information

Lyme Art Association

The Lyme Art Association (LAA) needs a great deal of help this year with their upcoming events.  The LAA is looking for volunteers to help with the Front Desk, opening receptions, exhibitions, and other events.  The LAA’s garden group, the Artful Gardeners, is also looking for a few green thumbs to help beautify the landscape.  And as always, the LAA is looking for high school and college students, who are interested in getting experience in the field of art as a Gallery Intern.  If you are interested in helping in any way, contact Krissa Ressler at 860-434-7802 or by email at
Krissa@lymeartassociation.org

The Lyme Tree - A Woman's Exchange

A Woman's Exchange located in the Old Lyme Marketplace is in urgent need of more volunteers to help staff the store.  Business has been brisk recently but a number of the regular staff are still in Florida and several have moved away, creating a short supply of help for the shop.  Sadly, the store has been forced to close on an occasional afternoon because no one is available to work.  If readers can donate any amount of time to help, contact Joan Ryan at 434-3970 or drop into the store at 86 Halls Rd.
